4x4 Lift Kits & Suspension Upgrades in North Lakes
Looking for a 4×4 lift kit in North Lakes, Moreton Bay or Brisbane Northside?
At North Lakes Cars, we believe a suspension upgrade should be about much more than simply making a 4WD sit higher. The right suspension package should suit the vehicle, accessories, normal load and the way the 4WD is actually used.
Before recommending a package, we consider daily driving, touring, towing and caravans, off-road and beach driving, bull bars and winches, canopies and toolboxes, drawers and fridges, long-range tanks, dual batteries, constant loads, wheels and tyres, and the overall vehicle setup.
Two identical Ford Rangers or Toyota HiLuxes can require very different suspension packages depending on how they are equipped and used.
Match the suspension to the vehicle — not the vehicle to the lift kit.
Bilstein 4x4 Suspension
Bilstein is one of the world’s best-known shock absorber and suspension manufacturers. Bilstein suspension can be an excellent option for 4WD owners looking for improved damping, suspension control, handling and ride quality.
Depending on the application, Bilstein suspension may suit daily-driven 4WDs, touring vehicles, dual-cab utes, towing applications, improved road handling and recreational off-road use.
Ask North Lakes Cars about Bilstein suspension options for your 4WD.
Tough Dog 4WD Suspension
Tough Dog Suspension is a well-known Australian 4WD suspension specialist offering products for a wide range of applications. Depending on the vehicle, available components can include Nitro Gas shocks, Foam Cell shocks, adjustable shocks, coil springs, leaf springs, upper control arms, torsion bars, Panhard rods and other suspension components.
The range gives us options when matching suspension to the weight, accessories and intended use of the vehicle.
Dobinsons 4x4 Suspension
Dobinsons is an established Australian suspension manufacturer offering suspension products for a broad range of popular 4WDs. Depending on the application, Dobinsons suspension can provide solutions for ride height, suspension control, load carrying, towing, touring, off-road use and vehicle stability.
The important part isn’t simply choosing a suspension brand. It’s selecting the right spring and shock combination for the particular vehicle.
Complete 4x4 Wheel & Tyre Packages
Want to completely transform the look and capability of your 4WD? North Lakes Cars can put together a complete lift kit, wheel and tyre package.
We can help with 4×4 alloy wheels, steel wheels, all-terrain tyres, mud-terrain tyres, larger tyre packages, wheel and tyre upgrades, suspension and lift kits, tyre fitting and balancing, wheel alignment and complete suspension, wheel and tyre packages.
Rather than choosing suspension, wheels and tyres separately, we look at the whole vehicle as one package
Choosing the Right Wheels & Tyres
Bigger wheels and tyres can dramatically change the appearance and capability of a 4WD, but choosing the correct combination involves more than looks.
We consider wheel diameter, wheel width, wheel offset, tyre diameter, tyre width, guard clearance, suspension clearance, steering clearance, vehicle load, intended use and applicable legal requirements.
The wrong combination can contribute to rubbing, clearance issues, poor handling and unnecessary stress on vehicle components. Our aim is a package that looks great, drives properly and works as a complete vehicle.
All-Terrain vs Mud-Terrain Tyres
For many daily-driven 4WDs, a quality all-terrain tyre provides an excellent compromise between road manners, durability and off-road capability. They are popular for everyday driving, touring, camping, gravel roads, beach driving and recreational off-road use.
Mud-terrain tyres are generally better suited to vehicles regularly tackling more demanding off-road conditions where additional off-road traction is a priority.
Tell us where you drive and how you use your 4WD and we can help choose an appropriate tyre.
4x4 Brake Package Upgrades
If you’re upgrading your 4WD, don’t forget about stopping it. Larger wheels and tyres, towing, touring equipment and additional vehicle weight can all increase the demands placed on the braking system.
North Lakes Cars can inspect the existing brakes and discuss appropriate 4×4 brake upgrade packages. Depending on the vehicle and application, options may include performance brake pads, upgraded brake rotors, pad and rotor packages, heavy-duty braking components, brake fluid servicing, complete brake inspections and brake upgrades for towing and touring applications.
Lift it. Wheel it. Tyre it. Make sure it stops properly too.

Is a 2-Inch Lift Right for My 4WD?
A 2-inch or approximately 50mm suspension lift is one of the most common upgrades 4WD owners ask about. Bigger isn’t automatically better. For many road-driven, touring and towing vehicles, a moderate suspension lift can provide a useful balance of additional clearance, improved stance, suspension performance, load control, road manners and everyday usability. The right lift depends on the individual vehicle.
Suspension for Towing & Caravans
If you tow a caravan, boat, camper trailer, horse float, car trailer or work trailer, the right suspension setup can make an important difference to how the vehicle behaves. We consider normal load, accessories and towing requirements before recommending suspension.
A suspension upgrade does not automatically increase the vehicle’s legal towing capacity or GVM.
4×4 Packages for Tradies & Work Utes
A work ute carrying tools and equipment every day requires different suspension from an unloaded family dual cab. We can discuss packages for tradies, fleet and service vehicles, toolbox-equipped utes, canopy vehicles, constant-load vehicles and towing vehicles.
Before We Upgrade Your 4WD, We Check It
There is little point installing expensive new suspension, wheels and tyres over worn or faulty components. Depending on the vehicle, we can inspect shock absorbers, springs, bushes, ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, steering components, CV joints and boots, control arms, brakes, tyres, existing ride height, uneven tyre wear and general mechanical condition.
We can then recommend what the vehicle actually needs.
FAQ
There isn't one best lift kit for every 4WD. The right suspension depends on the vehicle, accessories, normal load, towing requirements, intended use and budget.
It can be, depending on the vehicle and complete suspension setup. We recommend assessing the vehicle before deciding on lift height.
All three offer suspension solutions for different applications. We look at the particular vehicle and requirements before recommending a package.
Yes. We can put together a complete lift kit, wheel and tyre package so the suspension, wheels and tyres are considered together.
Potentially, but a lift doesn't automatically mean any tyre size will fit or be suitable. Wheel width, offset, tyre diameter, steering clearance, suspension clearance and applicable legal requirements all need to be considered.
Yes. Changing vehicle ride height can affect wheel alignment and steering geometry. Correct alignment is an important part of a professional suspension installation.
It depends on the vehicle and amount of lift. Some independent-front-suspension 4WDs may require additional components to achieve appropriate alignment and suspension geometry.
That depends on the vehicle, modifications and intended use. Additional vehicle weight, larger tyres and regular towing can place greater demands on the braking system. We can inspect the brakes and discuss suitable options.
Yes. Existing suspension wear, vehicle weight, accessories, wheels, tyres and intended use can all influence what we recommend.
